11 December 1990 was a night that Chuck Austin was due to make $150. Instead, he would end up with a staggering $10 million from the World Wrestling Federation by the time all was said and done.

Austin was utilised that night as an enhancement talent, teaming with Lanny Poffo to take on the Rockers in a tag team dark match prior to a WWF Superstars taping. This was to be your standard such match, with Marty Jannetty and Shawn Michaels due to get the easy win and spotlight some of the Rockers' patented tandem offense.

Unfortunately, things took a scary turn when Austin was left partially paralysed after breaking his neck when taking a Rocker Dropper from Jannetty.

Four years later, Chuck sued WWF and Jannetty for negligence. He was initially awarded $26.7 million before the amount was reduced to $10 million following a WWF appeal and an out of court settlement.

As Austin would state in a subsequent 1994 news interview, he only had six months of wrestling training before that ill-fated tag contest. He'd also explain to the interviewer how he still had grip issues and had to use canes to walk. A 2015 appearance on NBC News showed Austin was dealing with considerable pain and needed to a motorized wheelchair.
