10 Most Gloriously Overbooked Matches In Wrestling History

2. The WWE Creates The Definitive Match Of The Attitude Era

The discussion of when exactly the infamous Attitude Era of the WWE began can be debated upon endlessly. For many, though, things truly picked up when the company decided to pit the ultimate everyman Stone Cold Steve Austin against the prototypical evil boss Vince McMahon. It was an absurdly lucrative storyline that may have just reached its peak when Austin took on Dude Love at Over the Edge 1998. The amount of moving pieces in play during this match could make Game of Thrones blush. Dude Love was the corporate chosen champion, Vince Mcmahon was the special guest referee and corporate stooges Pat Patterson and Gerald Briscoe were the special guest ring announcer and time keeper. After spending over 10 minutes elaborately introducing each other, they proceeded to use every possible trick in the book to make sure Austin dropped the title once and for all. Meanwhile, The Undertake prowls the outside in an attempt to keep things honest. What€™s so incredible about this match is that it so perfectly captures the essence of the €œOne v.s The Corporate Machine€ storyline that the WWE and just about every other wrestling organization have been trying to recreate for years. Every role in this epic was executed perfectly and the audience bought into each over-the-top moment.
