10 Most Heartbreaking On-Screen WWE Break Ups
6. Dolph Ziggler & AJ Lee
The embarrassment and humiliation AJ Lee suffered at the hands of Daniel Bryan came full circle a year later, when her on-screen relationship with Dolph Ziggler came to an end. Despite Ziggler's character being the pits when it comes to women, Ziggles was arguably AJ's most stable partner on WWE TV. The two, along with new recruit Big E. Langston, were one of the most entertaining parts of WWE TV towards the end of 2012 and the beginning of 2013.
Ziggler was gaining more and more popularity however, and after cashing his Money in the Bank briefcase in to huge support the night after WrestleMania 29 Ziggler was pretty much a babyface. He would lose the strap in his first defence, back to Alberto Del Rio, and AJ would go on to cost him the re-match.
This was too much for Ziggler, and he subsequently broke up with AJ. After being deprived of stability for so long, AJ must have felt that she had finally found it in the shape of the Showoff. Rejection is difficult to take at the best of times, but rejection coming when you finally felt you'd found something must be extra hard to swallow. All of that hard work, gone, gone in the time it takes to smack Alberto Del Rio with a briefcase.
AJ would rebound pretty well this time however, going on to become one of the most important female wrestlers of her generation. Ziggler? Well, he's still staring at that glass ceiling.
