9. Rico Turns On Billy & Chuck
It
was supposed to be a night of history, progression and love. WWE was holding a
commitment ceremony on Smackdown in which tag team partners Billy and Chuck
would become life partners. The event gained mainstream attention from LGBT
activists like GLAAD, who were thrilled that homosexual characters on a popular
television show would be shown in such a positive light.
Of course, this is pro wrestling – progression isn’t as proven a draw as preconceived notions are. It was revealed that Rico, the duo’s stylist, had orchestrated the ceremony as a publicity stunt. He knew that Billy and Chuck weren’t gay, and that they wouldn’t go through with the charade.
So he aligned
with Eric Bischoff and Three Minute Warning, and ambushed his buddies as well
as Smackdown GM Stephanie McMahon.
