10 Most Heartbreaking Wrestling Manager Betrayals

8. Bill Alfonso Turns On Taz

Fans had salivated over Sabu facing Taz for a year – it was the ultimate dream match in ECW. After Sabu returned to the company from a stint in WCW, Taz challenged him at every opportunity, begging for a match with his former partner. When they finally collided at ECW’s inaugural pay-per-view Barely Legal 1997, Taz made the scarred kamikaze submit to the Katahajime.

Afterward, Taz offered a handshake to Sabu in a sign of respect. However, Rob Van Dam interrupted and attacked Taz, prompting Sabu to join the onslaught. Then they set their sights on Taz’s manager Bill Alfonso, whose screechy whistle-blowing had been the last sound many opponents heard before being choked out by Taz. As they inched closer, Fonzie took his Taz shirt off to reveal a Sabu one underneath.

He supported Sabu all along, actually betting money on him to win the match.
