10 Most Heartbreaking WWE Moments Ever
1. Paying Tribute
There was something unnerving about the frequency of posthumous tributes in the mid-2000s as more and more performers passed away in haze often closely linked to the ills they encountered in the wrestling industry. Too many wrestlers were dying, and it would take Eddie Guerrero's demise to finally trigger a Wellness Policy that seems to be doing something to stop so many going so young.
For all the embedded faults within the company and their occasional callousness around deceased performers, the Eddie tribute editions of Monday Night Raw and SmackDown were both balanced perfectly between commiseration and celebration.
A disconsolate Benoit was in no fit state as the show commenced, but entered in a gutsy display against Triple H on the SmackDown portion of a double taping that paid tribute to 'Latino Heat'. Chavo Guerrero binned his Kerwin White character off completely to lie, cheat and steal his way to a symbolic victory over John Bradshaw Layfield, whilst Shawn Michaels and Rey Mysterio had a rare singles match as one of the few highlights from a shellshocked Raw.
The demons of the industry were still tearing people apart, but those left living coming together helped briefly place plasters on gaping wounds.
