Heartbreak of a different kind now, with the overwrought and over-fought battle between Bret Hart and Vince McMahon providing a long overdue kayfabe payoff to one of the most legendary real life stories in industry history...before proceeding to brawl for another seven or eight interminable minutes.

After the entire Hart Family swerve turned on McMahon and his money, The Chairman was decimated by 'The Hitman' in broadly cathartic fashion until a feeling of awkwardness enveloped the University Of Phoenix Stadium.

Hart teased the Sharpshooter, then changed his mind and went back to dishing out the assault. McMahon never remotely regained control of the situation - and perhaps that was the point - but Bret seemed to be the only person in the known universe (let alone the WWE one) that hadn't gained enough vindication as the beatings continued.

He was victorious without sniff of a twist in the end too. There was no discernible reason for the match to go as long as it did other than possibly to use Hart's revenge to write off the Mr McMahon character completely. And it didn't. McMahon was storyline firing Hart as Raw General Manager later that year, rendering the bleak battle all the more needless.
