8. Steve Austin

Steve Austin, it's fair to say, has a history with sitdown tombstones.

On September 23, 1992, NWA champion and New Japan rising star Masahiro Chono put his belt on the line against challenger Steve Austin. Austin hit Chono with a badly botched sitdown tombstone piledriver, injuring his neck and endangering his fledgling career in the process.

Then time turned into a circle.

On August 3, 1997, WWF rising star Stone Cold Steve Austin challenged Owen Hart for the Intercontinental Championship. Austin was scheduled to win the title in his ongoing journey to the main event of WrestleMania 14 the next year. Hart hit Austin with a sitdown tombstone piledriver, botching it horrendously in the process. Austin was left temporarily paralysed and ultimately had to retire in 2003 at age 38 due to his various neck complications.

The injury was the bane of Austin’s otherwise megastar success main event run during the Attitude era. And according to Austin, Hart never apologised for the error causing a rift between the 2 men that lasted until Hart’s tragic death in 1999.
