7. Bret Hart

Bret Hart suffered a slew of skull-rattling concussions in the midst of his Starrcade 1999 main event with Goldberg. The first arrived in the form of an explosively stiff thrust kick from Goldberg - Hart’s head absorbed 100% of the impact, dealing him the worst injury of his career in the process.

Dazed and confused, Hart continued the match as planned, locking a figure four leg lock around the ring post on his opponent. When Goldberg failed to receive the move correctly, Hart’s head slammed against the concrete floor below, adding more injury with an additional concussion.

Hart continued to wrestle for a short spell afterwards despite his ailing health and cognitive difficulties. He ultimately retired in 2000 due to his incapacity from post concussion syndrome and was released via FedEx by WCW. His last match with the promotion occurred on the January 10 episode of Nitro against Kevin Nash and he vacated the title soon after.

Hart was understandably critical of his opponent when reflecting on what transpired, acknowledging Goldberg’s reckless reputation and trend of injured opponents during his time in WCW.
