6. The British Bulldog

Teaming up with old pal Jim Neidhart, The British Bulldog went to war with Alex Wright and Disco Inferno (collectively known as The Dancing Fools) at Fall Brawl 1998.

A trap door had been set up in the ring for The (Ultimate) Warrior’s grand entrance during the War Games main event later that evening. Bulldog took 2 painful bumps on the door, landing awkwardly both times and suffering a severe back injury in the process.

A heavy pain medication user, Bulldog’s condition worsened until doctors discovered a staph infection had worked its way into Bulldog’s spine. The infection rendered him on the cusp of paralysis and he remained hospitalised for 6 months, nearly losing his life in the process.

In the midst of his recuperation, vintage WCW struck with one of their FedEx firings. Bulldog’s drug abuse issues worsened with an addiction to morphine stemming from the pain of his back issues.

Bulldog would return to WWF in 1999 and had mixed success, often hopping all over the card without much booking consistency. Bulldog left the company in May 2000, wrestling very rarely afterwards before passing away due to a fatal heart attack in May 2002.
