Much of how the WWE has humiliated Daniel Bryan seems to come down to a lack of respect, and this is no different. The year before he would lose his WWE Heavyweight Championship in 17 seconds, Bryan was deemed so unimportant that his bout with Sheamus for the United States title ended up being a the pre-show match without a proper finish. The lumberjacks surrounding the ring got into a brawl and Teddy Long decided to make it a Battle Royal (which is surprising given his love of creating impromptu six man tag team matches). To be fair, this ended up being just as embarrassing for Sheamus as he was eliminated by the match's victor...The Great Khali. Once again, Bryan was an afterthought.
