10 Most Iconic Masks In Wrestling History
3. Mil Mascaras
Perhaps no lucha libre star is as iconic the world over as Mil Mascaras. The older brother of fellow legend Dos Caras, Mascaras was one of the "big three" of classic lucha libre (along with El Santo and Blue Demon), and while they were more famous in their home country, it was Mascaras who traveled the world, performing in Los Angeles, Japan, and even in Madison Square Garden for WWE - in fact, the ban on masks at MSG was lifted for Mascaras, making him the first masked wrestler to compete in the arena.
Mascaras's name literally means "1000 masks," so of course, he doesn't just have one - over the years, the star has donned many, with a variety of colors. They've all had similar features, though - lines from the front and down the sides and back, marks around the eyes and mouth evocative of eagle's feathers, and of course, the "M" on the forehead. Though the star is now in his 70s, he still competes, and his iconic mask immediately lets fans know they're looking at a legend.
