9. Gerald Brisco Vs. Pat Patterson - WWF King Of The Ring 2000

"This is going to be different," promised Jim Ross on commentary. It was that.

Incredibly, the match was even promoted with a hype video vignette, in which the stooges were presented as robots (!) with stated missions. Patterson, who turned on Brisco to claim his Hardcore title under the 24/7 ruling, had an objective to retain the title at "any cost". Brisco's mission was to "kick Pat Patterson's a**" which was funny - as opposed to the comedy "action", which decidedly was not - because how was he meant to do that in a match in which the actual mission was to remove the evening gown from the body of your opponent?

There was at least a logical storyline reason for the Evening Gown portion of the Hardcore Evening Gown stipulation. To avoid Brisco, Patterson dressed up in drag and took refuge in the women's locker room, before Brisco donned a dress to infiltrate his sanctum.

Actually, hold on. No. Pat Patterson was put in a dress because he's gay. Ah, yes. That was it. He tried to get out the match with a stream of innuendo - "I'll lay down in the middle of the ring, you can get on top of me..." - to which Jim Ross and Jerry Lawler reacted with repulsed guffawing.

He then tried to force a banana down Brisco's throat because it is vaguely similar in shape to a penis. It was somehow the most exciting spot.
