10 Most Influential Wrestlers Ever

6. Mil Máscaras

Alberto Del Rio'€™s notorious uncle, Mil Máscaras (the Thousand Masks) is famous for having introduced the lucha libre style to an eager international audience. Known for a ground-based offence in Mexico, he would become one of the first masked luchadors to work as a good guy outside of his home country. That meant unveiling the high-flying moveset of a fan favourite, which famously floored the Japanese industry - no less a legend than the original Tiger Mask has clearly stated that there would be no Jushin €˜Thunder€™ Liger or Ultimo Dragon without Mil Máscaras.

In Mexico, his size made him a heavyweight, yet his popularity was such that he became known as one of the €˜Big Three€™ stars in all of lucha libre. In North America, he became the first masked wrestler to perform in Madison Square Garden, and was so widely respected for his ability - if not necessarily for his personality - the length and breadth of the business that his example, and the techniques he popularised, paved the way for light heavyweights or cruiserweights across the board and across the world.
