Kevin Sullivan and Nancy Toffoloni were married in 1985. They’d met at a photoshoot for Wrestling All Stars magazine one year prior, and toured together for years. In 1996, Nancy began an on screen relationship with Chris Benoit, who was feuding with Sullivan at the time. This blossomed into a real-life affair off-screen, and when Kevin and Nancy were divorced in 1997, she and Benoit became engaged.

On June 24th, 2007, Chris, Nancy, and their seven-year-old son Daniel were found dead in their home. It was ruled that Benoit had murdered Nancy and Daniel before hanging himself, with part of the blame levied on the brain damage Benoit had sustained from taking so many concussions throughout his career. It remains one of the most tragic incidents in the sport’s history, and it’s still subject to immense speculation from wrestling fans.

Kevin Sullivan is a constant in such speculation. One theory suggests that driven by bitterness towards Benoit and his ex-wife, Kevin committed these heinous acts himself then set Benoit up as the guilty party. The most popular idea, however, is that Sullivan hired multiple hitmen to do the deed for him: a theory that many fans still cling to.

“Crossface,” the forthcoming Benoit biopic, was allegedly set to explore this possibility through multiple scene, but that remains to be seen. Fortunately, there is zero physical evidence that Sullivan or another third party had any role in this tragic act whatsoever.
