In effect, the Money In The Bank Ladder Match, for all its undeniable, violent appeal, is in complete contravention of pro wrestling's essence. Wrestling is, or was, a simulated form of combat in which its players create the mere illusion of pain. MITB in contrast is a patently rehearsed and contrived match genre that would render suspension of disbelief impossible, were in not for the very real agony its combatants all too literally put themselves through.
This is underscored by the very obvious way in which the remaining field assembles to take the old omni-bump chestnut. That being the case, the set-up for Evan Bourne's 2011 magic MITB moment was as seamless as the spot was spectacular. With that field believably taken out by the stereo splashes of Rey Mysterio and Kofi Kingston, Bourne then scaled the rungs of a ringside ladder and, with incredible balance, prehensile feet and agility, flattened everybody with a stunning Shooting Star Press.
This was almost the very embodiment of the genre's brilliance...
