10 Most Insanely Popular TNA Matches Ever
6. Sting Vs. Jeff Jarrett (Bound For Glory 2006)
Sting's reputation and popularity dipped up and down throughout his TNA run but in 2006, Sting was the hottest thing.
Unlike WWE's petulance with positioning deteriorating grapplers at the helm of the product, TNA's use of yesteryear's top draws was - largely - beneficial. Sting's workrate, charisma, and ethic hadn't decreased since WCW folded, as he instead became accepted as the de facto leading babyface.
'The Stinger' was aided through this period by an '05-era Triple H clone in Jeff Jarrett, whose reign of terror as NWA Worlds Heavyweight Champion was unwanted, undesirable, and unending - and yet it worked so convincingly alongside Sting's arc. His victory of the title over Jarrett at Bound For Glory 2006 was a poignant point of lore in his TNA run. He was the guy brought in to topple 'Double J' but rather than wasting the euphoric pop on an arbitrary IMPACT, TNA hung onto the moment for what was their biggest occasion to date.
The cathartic moment in question wasn't, however, Sting's title ascension. It was, in fact, when he no-sold a guitar being smashed over his head, beat his chest, and battered Jeff. It was an enchanting moment within an enchanting match, a legitimate must-see piece of TNA history to understand the implication of the moment that 10 million have already viewed.
