10 Most Insanely Popular TNA Matches Ever
5. Gail Kim Vs. Awesome Kong (IMPACT Wrestling, 28 October 2015)
Gail Kim and Awesome Kong's fabled TNA feud was illustrious. They legitimately changed the perception of women's wrestling in 2007/08, turned themselves from two good hands into genuine main event-calibre acts, and expertly laid out how elementary it was to design a conclusive and powerful tale.
So, it may be counterproductive to say that their 28 October 2015 bout - a featured match of the nonsensical and eternal World Title Series - was no worse than mediocre at best. It was a ponderous, incessant match so unbecoming of the Gail Kim and Awesome Kong standard.
Kim and Kong wrestled a sluggish match during a sluggish period in a sluggish tournament. So abnormal was it to their aforementioned Final Resolution 2008 match, Gail seemingly refused to work the perilous babyface style she'd adopted in every other situation, instead selling regularly as if getting maimed by the former Kharma was the same as working Taryn Terrell or Madison Rayne.
Commentary - at the time from the lackadaisical combination of Josh Mathews and The Pope - was colourless, too. They spent the majority of the nearly 15-minute match reminding viewers every minute that a 15-minute time limit was in effect. That almost every second was used is an insult to the, thus far, 12 million who viewed the bout hoping for something evocative of their previous prototypical outings.
