10 Most Inspirational Joe Rogan Experience Episodes
3. Megan Phelps-Roper #974
Unlike many of the other guests featured on this list, Megan Phelps-Roper doesn't espouse the necessity for exercise or healthy eating as a tool for inspiring listeners. Instead, the former religious zealot is inspirational simply in the manner in which she confronted her own belief system.
Growing up among a family of religious fundamentalists in the infamously ultra-conservative Westboro Baptist Church, Phelps-Roper details on her appearance on the JRE in 2017 how growing up alongside the contemptible views of her family had poisoned her belief system and her opinions on the world at large.
Megan describes how the hatred the church receives from the outside world only emboldens their bigoted viewpoints making it difficult for them to consider trying to engage in rational discourse with an outsider.
Now one of the WBCs most vocal critics, Phelps-Roper explains that simply conversing with people on Twitter was the first step to her challenging her own beliefs, and questioning the legitimacy that undermined them.
Why this podcast is so important is that while few people will have ever held beliefs as extreme as those once espoused by Phelps-Roper, it reiterates the importance of being able to civilly discuss ideas in order to change and ultimately grow as people.
