Climactic Event: Unforgiven Location: Oklahoma City Date: September 18, 2005 This angle is a classic example of art imitating life. Backstage, Lita was in an on-and-off relationship with fellow Team Xtreme member Matt Hardy. But then, she cheated on Matt with Edge, and the WWE, forward thinkers that they were, decided to release Matt, since Edge was over more with the crowd. Eventually, however, the WWE caved to public pressure. They rehired Matt, but put him in a storyline with (you guessed it) Edge. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Vg0ZnS-XI8k Its incredible that these two could be in the same room with each other, let alone put on a match, but they did both of these things, and more. They fought each other in about every configuration and match type imaginable. Even though Matt would eventually be defeated in a Loser Leaves Raw match, and be transferred to the Smackdown! brand, everyone remembers the steel cage match at 2005s Unforgiven. There was the leg drop off the top of the cage, the Twist of Fate to Lita, and the crimson mask that streamed off of Edges face by the end of the match. Hell hath no fury like a man scorned, it would seem.
