2. "Bret Screwed Bret"
Date: November 17th The Montreal Screwjob is, without question, one of the most infamous events in wrestling history. When the 1997 Survivor Series ended, all that fans could wonder is just how everyone would handle the situation moving forward. Not surprisingly, it was Vince McMahon that fans would hear from first. In a series of sit-down interviews, Vince would give his side of the story, and tell the wrestling world why the events of Survivor Series went down the way they did. His interviews came across as part-work and part-shoot, but the fact of the matter is that he was saying he had to do what he did. That's when he uttered the lines that will go down in history as cold, calculated, callous and overall, honest... "Some would say I screwed Bret Hart. Bret Hart would definitely tell you I screwed him. I look at it from a different standpoint. I look at it from the standpoint of... the referee did not screw Bret Hart, Shawn Michaels certainly did not screw Bret Hart, nor did Vince McMahon screw Bret Hart. I truly believe that Bret Hart screwed Bret Hart, and he can look in the mirror and know that." It allowed how real things were to sink in, as fans began to say goodbye to Bret Hart, as far as being a WWF performer was concerned.
