Date: October 13th While the group had already formed, they were without a name for a while. That's when Bret Hart made the fateful comment in a promo, referring to Shawn Michaels and Triple H as "degenerates", and the rest, as they say, is history. It was a cool name. It was a name that was easy to remember. It was even a name that made sense, as both men fit the "Generation X" group of people that were born in the post-World War 2 era. In fact, every member that the group ever had fit that criteria, including Rick Rude, who was the group's oldest member, born in 1958. When you really stop and think about it, the name Degeneration X is one of the more clever stable names that wrestling has ever seen, and shortening it to DX only made it more accessible for fans of any age. The best part about the entire thing? The group that would torment Bret Hart for all that time, including sending him out of the WWF altogether, was named by Hart himself. There's a lot of humor in that.
