At Sin, a pay-per-view held when WCW was in its death throes, Sid was allegedly ordered to perform a move he was unwilling - and certainly incapable - of performing. With Scott Steiner positioned in the middle of the ring, Sid attempted to strike him with a big boot launched from the top rope. Sid was never one to be confused for a luchador - he was gigantic, and relied on his fearsome intensity to mask his bumbling technique - and he did not know how to land. The leg he could not plant snapped clean in two. He broke his fibula and tibia in a sickening scene that WCW replayed on Monday Nitro in a grim bid to capitalise on the publicity.

This was all so multifariously dumb: Sid shouldn't have been asked to do it, and he wasn't ordinarily shy about telling anybody to f*ck off.

Who was to blame?

Sid claimed road agent John Laurinaitis applied the pressure, and miraculously, a lawsuit to that effect was thrown out of court. Sid didn't really have a legal argument, but he should have simply said to the jury "C'mon, lads, this guy signed the wrong one-legged wrestler, of course he was thick enough to end my career".

He'd have made bank.
