10 Most METAL Wrestlers Of All Time

8. Stone Cold Steve Austin

Stone Cold Steve Austin was metal as all heck, and you don't need to be an expert to work that out. The Attitude Era superstar was businessman-like in his excitement, a no-nonsense superstar who came, raised hell, drank beer and left, usually in that order. There were iconic matches and legendary promos in amongst it all as well, obviously.

Austin's anti-authority stance makes him a shoo-in for this list, even without the stomping entrance music and appreciation for a well-placed middle finger. Austin became a megastar in direct opposition to Vince McMahon, the embodiment of the corporate world. Metal made its name on being a point of difference, of offering people something different to the shiny boredom of mainstream music.

There was focused brutality to everything Stone Cold did, from the matter-of-fact nature of his entrance all the way to the Stone Cold Stunner, a finishing move that eschewed pageantry in favour of direct violence. His willingness to blaspheme in the search for catchy slogans should also be noted, a classic move deployed by the overwhelming majority of non-Christian metal bands.

Also, skulls.

Born in the middle of Wales in the middle of the 1980's, John can't quite remember when he started watching wrestling but he has a terrible feeling that Dino Bravo was involved. Now living in Prague, John spends most of his time trying to work out how Tomohiro Ishii still stands upright. His favourite wrestler of all time is Dean Malenko, but really it is Repo Man. He is the author of 'An Illustrated History of Slavic Misery', the best book about the Slavic people that you haven't yet read. You can get that and others from www.poshlostbooks.com.
