10 Most Momentous WWE SummerSlam Title Changes In History
8. The New Day Win The WWE Tag Team Championships (2015)
Nestled in amongst SummerSlam 2015's blockbuster matches of John Cena vs Seth Rollins and The Undertaker's rematch with Brock Lesnar was a fairly inconspicuous 4-way match for the WWE Tag Team Championships. Champions The Prime Time Players (no, really, they were actually the champions for a bit) defended against The Lucha Dragons, Los Matadores, and The New Day.
Big E, Kofi, and Xavier had been dethroned by The Players one month earlier and were keen to get their straps back. This is exactly what happened, as Kofi pinned one of the Matadors to reclaim the gold.
Whilst New Day winning the match was a fairly predictable result, nobody could have predicted where this reign would take them. The trio would hold the gold for the rest of the year, beyond WrestleMania, through the following year's SummerSlam before finally dropping the titles in December 2016.
The New Day clocked in a whopping 483 days with the championships, breaking a 23-year-old record for the longest single reign with tag team championships in the history of WWE. For that reason, it's impossible to argue that this title change isn't historic, even if it was nothing to write home about at the time.
