The only major WWE event held in the UK, SummerSlam 1992 drew over 80,000 fans to the old Wembley Stadium and most of those fans were there to watch their local hero fight for the Intercontinental Championship.

Davey Boy Smith, better know as "The British Bulldog", was basically royalty in the UK. He'd come up on the popular British TV show, World of Sport, and was arguably the most famous ambassador for the sport to ever hail from Britain.

Davey Boy's fans were rewarded for their loyalty in the main event of SummerSlam '92, when Smith was pitted against Intercontinental Champion and his own brother-in-law, Bret Hart. The Hitman helped Davey Boy to his best singles match ever and one of the best matches in SummerSlam history. He took the fall to give Davey his one and only Intercontinental Championship reign in front of a jubilant UK crowd.

This title switch didn't usher in a new era nor did it propel The Bulldog to the main event. However, this is a moment that has been committed to a nation's wrestling folklore and that has to be worth something, surely?
