The seven women drafted to the SmackDown brand two months ago were initially thought to be lame-duck castoffs without a title to fight over; it was said that Monday Night Raw came away with the vastly superior roster of female talent.

What say those people now?

It has been pretty incredible to watch the maturation of the SmackDown Women's division in the last nine weeks. Not only do they now have a championship to stimulate their feuds, but they have also made the most of every opportunity afforded them to develop their characters and simultaneously begin to erase the general concern that SmackDown was going to suffer from a lack of depth with which to fill their 2-hour program.

On Tuesday, Becky Lynch and the #1 contender to her title, Alexa Bliss, offered the latest example of the women of SmackDown maximizing their minutes in an engaging opening segment that primed the audience for their upcoming championship match at No Mercy in a couple of weeks. Bliss was on point in her verbal barbs and Lynch was efficient and effective in her babyface retorts.

Anyone who continues to write off SmackDown's female contingent would be wise to watch this segment.
