10 Most Notorious Booker T Urban Legends

5. It Was Booker's Idea To Revert To 'G.I Bro' Gimmick In WCW

Story: Shortly before winning the WCW World Title at Bash At The Beach 2000, Booker T experienced a massive overhaul. Instead of playing the straightforward character he had played for years on television, the man's gimmick was changed to a military one. Going under the name, 'G.I Bro', Booker failed to connect with fans in the role and it was abandoned quickly. The persona had been one Booker had earlier used on the independent scene before WCW. Vince Russo is largely credited as the one who booked the switch, but there have been rumours that it was in fact Booker T who chose to change gimmicks. Why People Believe It: Booker T didn't have to adopt the 'G.I Bro' gimmick in the year 2000. Russo may have suggested it, but it's unlikely there would have been much pressure on the wrestler to change things up. If Russo is to be believed, he and the rest of the WCW creative squad viewed Booker T as a future main event star, so giving him a hokey military gimmick doesn't add up. Should We Believe It: This isn't something Booker T has discussed widely, exactly why he adopted the 'G.I Bro' gimmick once more. Just months later, he was WCW World Champion, and had abandoned the character. The big question still remains, did Booker T feel he had to do something to help stand out on the WCW roster in 2000?
