The Legend: That Eddie Guerrero was going to win the 2006 Royal Rumble match. Why People Believe It: People, particularly those posting in online message boards, like to speculate on what the plans for Eddie would have been, had he not passed away on November 13th, 2005. Eddie was a big star and was doing some of the best work of his career right before he tragically died so it's obvious that the company had angles lined up for him. One rumour was that Eddie was going to win the 2006 Royal Rumble match and go on to headline WrestleMania in a match for the World Heavyweight Championship. What evidence is there for this? Not a lot. Eddie was as good a candidate as any but it's likely that WWE didn't know who was going to win the title until nearer the event. Rey Mysterio famously won the 2006 Rumble in honour of Eddie (he cam out in a low rider and wore Eddie-inspired ring gear). It was between Rey and Triple H, with most of the booking committee voting in favour of Triple H, but Pat Patterson used his status to make it so that Rey won. Is It True: Probably not.
