10 Most Notorious Eddie Guerrero Urban Legends

3. WWE Hired Vickie Guerrero Because They Felt Responsible For Eddie's Death

The Legend: That WWE hired Eddie Guerrero's widow Vickie because they felt partially responsible for the death of her husband. Why People Believe It: Eddie Guerrero was really worn down in the weeks leading up to his death. Vickie has said in the past that Eddie couldn't sleep properly and was feeling pretty ill. The truth was, Eddie had been feeling that way for months but was scared to ask for time off in case he lost his spot. Bob 'Hardcore' Holly tells a heartbreaking story in his book about how Eddie was in such agony in the months before his death that he would spend all of his time backstage lying down on the trainer's table. One time, Eddie was in so much pain that he couldn't tell if he needed to go to the bathroom or not. WWE knew that Eddie was in bad shape, but they still didn't give him time off. It's probably that Vince felt bad about this, since Eddie was a beloved character in the locker room. WWE hired Vickie in an on-screen role shortly after Eddie's death, in an effort to help her pay the bills (Eddie had left his family in a perilous financial predicament). Is It True: Who knows? The death of Eddie clearly affected Vince and the rest of the WWE higher-ups. Everyone loved Eddie and couldn't believe that he'd passed so suddenly, especially after conquering his addictions and making the comeback he had. Vince did institute the Wellness Policy as a direct result, so it's not unreasonable to think that he gave Vickie a gig because he felt bad, too.
