9. He Nearly Returned To WWE In 1998 To Face Steve Austin At WrestleMania 14
Story: This is a story based off information shared by former long time WWE employee Bruce Prichard (who you might know as Brother Love) in an interview with
KayfabeCommentaries.com. Prichard was a part of WWE's front office for about 20 years and knows a lot of things about the inner workings of WWE that aren't public knowledge. During his interview, Bruce pointed out that there was a time in late 1997/early 1998 where Hogan was considering going back to WWE. At the time, Hogan was a main part of WCW as the leader of the New World Order. According to Prichard, the deal to go back to WWE was really close to happening before Hogan ultimately decided to stay where he was.
Why People Believe It: Hogan has always been a smart businessman. He probably thought that he could go to WWE to work with the red hot Steve Austin and rising stars like The Rock to make a lot of money. The source of the interview is important too because Pritchard was privy to a lot of information. Maybe he's bitter about some things since he got fired by WWE and failed in TNA, but it doesn't appear to be the case with a story like this.
Should We Believe It: Leaning towards no. Hogan had a huge contract in WCW, he had full creative control over everything and it's unlikely that WWE was going to pay him more than what WCW was. Plus, this interview with Prichard that aired in March 2014 is the first time we heard this story. You would think that we would have heard about Hogan going to WWE in 1998 at some point, but before Prichard said it we had no idea.
