10 Most Notorious Scott Steiner Urban Legends
10. WWE Paid Him To Sit At Home In 2004
The Legend: That WWE allowed Steiner's contract to run out while they paid him to sit at home.
Why People Believe It: Steiner's WWE run was a huge letdown. The 'Genetic Freak' got a huge pop on his debut at the 2002 Survivor Series in Madison Square Garden and looked like a superstar in promos. It went downhill fast. Physically, Steiner wasn't the same as he he had been in the past and he couldn't perform to the WWE main event standard. Realising that Scotty was past-it, WWE began dropping him down the card. He teamed up and then feuded (and then teamed again) with Test in a storyline in which both men wanted Stacy Keibler's managerial services. Steiner made his last appearance for WWE in the 2004 Royal Rumble match (he was eliminated early by Booker T). Steiner was injured after that. He was released by the company on 17 August.
Is It True: Pretty much, yeah. Although Steiner was struggling physically, he was still capable of working but WWE told him not to bother. Steiner wasn't the performer that WWE thought they were buying (for big money, incidentally) and didn't have anything for him creatively. They were hardly going to have Steiner come in and job to midcarders on his way, were they? That would not have set well with the Big Bad Booty Daddy.
