Story: Wrestling characters are always influenced by others. They can get ideas from movies, TV shows, musicians or just regular people. If you're a good wrestler you will always be thinking about what you can do to get yourself more over or change your look. Sting apparently was influenced my musician Marilyn Manson, who was on the cover of Rolling Stone magazine at the time. Manson is known for being a dark, demonic kind of musician that was very edgy and earned a lot of respect for being a risqué kind of performer. Some people didn't like that aspect of it, but if you saw him you never forgot him. Here's how Sting explained it in a 2013 interview: I remember going through an airport, and you know how the magazine stand has a hundred magazines. Well, there was Marilyn Manson of all people on one of the covers, and he had this weird looking paint on his face, and I went, Wooooh. So I kind of took a little bit of that and then just created what I created. Why People Believe It: Look at how Manson would paint his face and especially on that Rolling Stone magazine cover. It's very similar to how Sting looked. Should We Believe It: Yes. There's no reason for Sting to lie about something like that. It shows how smart Sting was to use something that worked for a musician that knew how to make himself into a brand and then use it in his wrestling career.
