4. He Nearly Quit TNA After Jeff Hardy Incident In 2011
Story: Sting's contract with TNA was up in late 2010 and there was a lot of talk that he was going to go to WWE. Instead, he signed with TNA and won the TNA World Title in his first match back. At Victory Road in March 2011 he defended the TNA World Title against former champion Jeff Hardy. Instead of some classic match between two top guys, Hardy showed up in no condition to perform. Hardy had a drug problem for many years and he showed up for this match in bad shape. He stumbled out there like a drunk. After Sting entered, they stalled and Eric Bischoff came out. Bischoff added to the stalling. He shook Hardy's hand, then spoke to him without a microphone and he did the same to Sting. Bischoff rambled on about it being a No Disqualification match. Hardy stalled some more. This PPV main event match featured very little "action" as Sting hit a Scorpion Death Drop and did a really snug cover of Hardy, who kicked out shortly after the three count. The match went officially 1:28 of in-ring time. When it was over, Sting looked upset and said "I agree" likely to some fans that said that match was a joke. He looked visibly upset by it. Was he so mad that he wanted to quit TNA? Why People Believe It: Since he was so close to going to WWE, there were some people that thought he would get out of TNA as soon as possible because of how bad that match was. He would have had justification in doing so after that match. Should We Believe It: No. While Sting was visibly upset by what happened, as far as we know he didn't actively try to get out of his TNA deal. Jeff Hardy ended up cleaning up his life to the point that he got in much better shape and is doing better these days.
