5. WWE Bought Rights To Metallica Song For His WrestleMania Debut... In 2011
Story: This one's pretty interesting and not that well known, but at the time that it happened it definitely created a lot of buzz. There were all kinds of rumors that Sting was headed to WWE in 2011. They expected him to work WrestleMania 27 likely against The Undertaker. In anticipation of Sting's signing, WWE paid for royalties for a Metallica song, which was going to be Seek & Destroy. The reason they did that is because Sting used a version of their famous song in WCW, so WWE wanted something that was familiar to wrestling fans and also something that would entice Sting to sign. When Sting decided not to come to WWE, the company was forced to change their plans and Triple H ended up using the Metallica song "For Whom The Bell Tolls" for part of his entrance at WrestleMania 27.
Why People Believe It: The talks with WWE and Sting really intensified at that point, so it's believable that WWE would try to bring him in by getting the song he was closely associated with.
Should We Believe It: Yes it's true. If you check out the DVD version of the show, the
Youtube version that WWE uploaded and on WWE Network you won't hear the Metallica version of For Whom The Bell Tolls because Metallica charges a lot of money for it. Here's the real entrance from Triple H at that show. https://youtu.be/tPr2U39Q0_U No idea how much WWE paid for the song, but it showed that WWE was trying to lure Sting in four years ago using a famous Metallica song and it didn't work.
