9. Chyna Refused To Work With The Women In 2001 And Demanded To Challenge For The World Championship
The Legend: That Chyna's ego was out-of-control in 2001 that she refused to work with other women wrestlers and felt that she should be matched against the likes of Steve Austin and Triple H in PPV main events. The Evidence: There are a few reasons that have been posited for The Ninth Wonder of the World's dismissal on November 30th 2001. They range from 'she was fired because of the Triple H/Stephanie relationship' to 'she had problems with substance abuse' and everything in between. Jim Ross claimed in 2007 that Chyna was not released but chose to leave the company herself, for personal reasons. This is a story which Chyna refuted in a 2011 interview, stating:
I wanted to stay. I was not expecting to get a fax that said, "You will not be needed anymore" when I was still on contract. That was a surprise
Things had been sour between Chyna and WWE for some time. Although she was given her marching orders in November, she had been off television for several months. WWE had been displeased with Chyna's attitude, particular the idea that she was 'above' the Women's Championship and working with the likes of Trish Stratus, Lita and Ivory. Is It True: All reports at the time seem to indicate so, although the Stephanie McMahon/Triple H affair becoming public can't have helped matters.
