10 Most Overused Moves In Wrestling Today
7. The Frog Splash
The Frog Splash is an aerial attack whereby an assailant launches off a platform, such as the top turnbuckle or a ladder, onto their belly-up lying opponent. The froggy element involves springing and extending the limbs in a similar fashion to the short-bodied amphibian.
Both Kevin Owens and Seth Rollins are partial to executing the dive, as are The Usos, without the tucking motion. The likes of Sasha Banks, Rey Mysterio and his son, Dominik, all perform the move in tribute to their idol and friend, Eddie Guerrero, respectively. Kudos to Montez Ford, who actually uses it as a finisher, achieving great height in the process.
There is a reason why Rob Van Dam's version was called the Five Star Frog Splash. No-one else could top it. Although, Latino Heat's was on par and made the dive popular. 'Mr. PPV''s finisher had a fluidity and was flawlessly executed each time. He accentuated the tuck and made sure the audience knew how much impact it took on his body, not just his opponent: a risk well worth the reward.
Sadly, the impact of the move has diminished due to its casual over-usage. RVD's really was one of a kind.
