10 Most Overused Moves In Wrestling Today
4. Forearm/Punch Showdowns
Picture yourself in this situation:
It's the main event. You are twenty minutes into the match and you and your opponent have been knocking seven bells out of each other. Battered, bruised, maybe bloody, and absolutely exhausted, lying prone on the canvas. One more dominate hit by your opponent then it's potential lights out for you. Knowing this, you carefully eye up your opponent as you both make it to your feet.
Why on earth would you then allow, even encourage, your challenger to whack you full on in the face repeatedly? Bravado? Ignorance? The answer: We need a bit for the audience to interact with, aka, the "boo" "yay" transition. Wrestling is theatre, but this is pure pantomime.
It is frustrating how long these slugfests go on, some seem like an eternity, with wrestlers no selling the majority of the strikes. Those fatigued, slow, wind-up versions, in particular, make for such tedious viewing.
