10 Most Patriotic American WWE Wrestlers Ever

5. John Cena

The man who wears dogtags to the ring and salutes the crowd before sprinting down the ramp is another who doesn€™t exactly don red, white and blue regularly, but John Cena is a self-professed champion of the American way.

Cena outwardly shows a ton of respect for the United States military at WWE events, which goes a long way toward his standing as a patriotic wrestler. His promos will include pro-America language, especially when facing a foreign heel. At no time was this more evident than during Cena€™s four-month feud with Rusev.

Cena talked up how great America is and served as a perfect foil for Rusev and Lana€™s pro-Russia rants. (We can agree that Cena might have been the wrong guy to end Rusev€™s undefeated streak, but on paper he was a great person to be Rusev€™s counterweight.)

While holding the United States Championship throughout the summer and fall, Cena regularly held open challenges, giving random opponents title shots because he believed that the U.S. title represented opportunity and was a symbol of excellence. Sure sounds like he was describing the American flag.

He fortunately became a fan in time for WrestleMania III and came back as a fan after a long high school hiatus before WM XIV. Monday nights in the Carlson household are reserved for viewing Raw -- for better or worse.
