10 Most Patriotic WWE Moments

1. SmackDown - 13 September 2001

On 11 September 2001, WWE was scheduled to tape Smackdown in Houston, Texas. During a production meeting that morning, WWE officials watched the tragic news of two planes crashing into the World Trade Center in New York City. The U.S. was under attack and fear swept the country.

The taping was cancelled, and McMahon met with then-Houston Mayor Lee Brown to figure out a game plan. They decided to do the show live two days later. It was the first live gathering of any size following the terrorist attack – a sold out crowd of wrestling fans and more importantly, grieving Americans.

As the entire roster stood on the entrance ramp, Lillian Garcia sang a stirring rendition of The Star-Spangled Banner, drawing tears and cheers from the capacity crowd.
