9. Kevin Owens Defeats John Cena
Even though it was Neville who captured the Slammy Award in WWE for being 'Break Out Star Of The Year', Kevin Owens would have been deserving of the reward himself. Bursting onto the scene in May, Owens was immediately booked to set his sights on John Cena. It was a huge show of faith in 'KO' that he was programmed so quickly against the man generally considered WWE's top name. Incredibly, WWE management didn't just stop there. During his debut, Owens was booked to lay out Cena and then challenge him to a match for the Elimination Chamber pay-per-view. There, most fans reasoned that the newcomer may be allowed to look strong, before inevitably succumbing to 'Super Cena'. Shockingly, that's not what happened, WWE were serious about the man. On the pay-per-view, Kevin Owens defeated WWE's franchise player, and he did so cleanly. Standing over Cena mid-way through the match, the then NXT Heavyweight Champion mocked his foe to loud cheers. Post-match, few could believe that Owens had won the bout.
