10 Most Pointless World Champions In WWE History

2. Vince McMahon (1999)

Vince McMahon WWE Title

Had Vince McMahon beaten his arch nemesis Steve Austin for the WWF Heavyweight Title at some point in early-1999, this title switch may have meant something and would have fed nicely into the world-class feud between both men.

The fact Vince was handed the belt in September 1999 (when he had been realigned as a babyface) confused everybody. Beating Triple H thanks to the help of Austin and son Shane, the WWE patriarch then proceeded to vacate the title on the very next episode of Raw, thus rendering his win ultimately meaningless.

Again, the entire exercise proved pointless in the long run, because Triple H would win the title for a second time by way of a 'Six-Pack Challenge' at Unforgiven. McMahon's brief foray into the WWF Title picture came at the wrong time, and - worse - did little to sell the belt as wrestling's most prestigious when it could be palmed off without proper explanation by the champion.

Vince Russo may have won and vacated the WCW Title to much criticism in 2000, but Vince McMahon did it first.
