10 Most Pointless WWE Tag Team Breakups Ever

1. The IIconics

Granted the IIconics aren’t exactly everyone’s favorite wrestling act, but none of that even matters here.

On one episode of Raw, it was just randomly announced that whoever lost the match between the IIconics and the Riott Squad, would have to disband. Why was this made? Who made this? And why did the teams agree to this?

Normally an onscreen breakup is at the very least accompanied with some kind of explanation, however threadbare it may be. At least have them properly fall out, or let there be a reason why the two teams would want to put their unions on the line.

This was so bizarre and so ridiculous, it served as a perfect microcosm of the creative malaise that has so often the hallmark of WWE programming in recent years.

Ruby Riott and Liv Morgan would go on win this absurd contest, forcing Peyton Royce and Billie Kay to split. Hilariously Tom Phillips on commentary then announced that this was also the end of their friendship; so either he’s a fortune-teller or WWE owns the personal lives of their wrestlers too.

And while we sort of teased a possible feud between the two when Peyton pushed Billie into a beat down at Raw Underground, the very next week they were hugging after a match. Infuriating, insulting, and without a doubt the most pointless breakup in WWE history.

After battling Galactus and pinning Hulk Hogan in the main event of Wrestlemania, I've taken a break from living in fantasy worlds, to focus on writing about them. I'm a comic book geek, a wrestling mark, a break dancer, and a scientist. One of those things may not be true.
