10 Most Polarizing Wrestlers Working Today

5. Trick Williams

For some, Trick Williams is everything a champion should be. With his action-hero good looks and overwhelming charisma, Trick is simply the coolest man in any building he walks into.

Unfortunately, for certain types of wrestling fan, the former NXT champion is a walking case of "...and then the bell rang".

When discussing Trick Williams, the wrestler who keeps popping into this writer's head is the late Sid Vicious, a.k.a. Sycho Sid. Like Sid, Trick has the "it" factor that simply can't be taught. But whereas Sid's charisma came from sheer physical presence and intensity, Trick's is from being inescapably cool. Take the scene in NXT last year, when he worldessly seduced an antagonistic Lash Legend into kissing him through sheer animal magnetism. It could have been utterly cringe-inducing, but the undeniable electricity emanating from the couple had the entire arena buzzing.

Unfortunately, cool factor alone does not a wrestler make and, again like Sid, it's in the ring where Trick's weaknesses become apparent. All too often you can see Trick's opponents covering for him, such as in the the conclusion of a bout against Ethan Page where Trick's adversary had to trip over his own feet to cover up the fact Williams was out of position for the finish.

Trick Williams is agonizingly close to being a genuine world-beater (or "Master and Ruler of the World", as Sid used to say). But until he improves in the ring, he's always going to have contend with the naysayers.
