10 Most Prestigious Titles In American Wrestling Right Now
9. AEW (Interim) Women's Championship
Let's start this off by congratulating Jamie Hayter on winning the AEW (Interim) Women's Championship.
Through excellent development of her in-ring and character, Hayter has become a popular figure amongst the AEW faithful and this victory feels like things are moving in the right direction. The opportunity to now face off with her mentor, Britt Baker or for a showdown with Thunder Rosa, whom she has had real life issues with, is tasty.
It's much needed, too.
There have been thousands of words put to lists and articles about the issues that the AEW Women's division has had since its beginning, with a clear lack of focus or planning afforded to it. It's an indictment on the product and one that has rightly been pointed out. However, things have improved over the past six months or so, and Hayter is a good example of it.
Not enough has been done to establish the belt as a truly important one yet, and whilst Baker herself has become a true star in the company, nobody else has been made to feel the same. Thunder Rosa's absence is unfortunate, but she was hardly a dominant champion. Also, the interim idea, whilst a noble effort at something different, has hurt the prestige of the belts but Tony Khan has set a precedent now.
Hopefully Hayter can help continue the build of the belt, as for all her potential star power, Jade Cargill's run as TBS Champion just isn't doing that belt any favours.
