10 Most Prestigious Titles In American Wrestling Right Now
8. WWE United States Championship
For far too long, the WWE United States Championship meant nothing. There was no prestige associated with winning it, and whilst most fans get excited when a "work rate" wrestler claimed the gold, nothing ever really happened. Can you honestly remember a feud over this belt that really meant anything?
It's been seven long years since John Cena held the belt, hosting his weekly open challenges and that was probably the last time the belt felt truly valued. Whether as a reward for a main eventer with nothing to do, or a perceived stepping stone for an upcoming star, the belt just hasn't been a significant part of wrestling for a long time. Did you know that Finn Balor was US Champ earlier this year? Did you care?
So credit needs to go to Triple H for his re-emphasis on the importance of the mid-card belts, but also, to Bobby Lashley. After years of somehow getting it wrong, they finally got the 'All-Mighty' right, and as soon as he rescued the belt from Austin Theory, he instantly made it a main event concern. With Roman hardly on RAW, Lashley acted and fought like the main champion on the brand and it's why his recent defeat to Seth Rollins registered so well with the fans.
Around Rollins waist, the belt now feels like a proper title and one most wrestlers aspire to win. Now all WWE need to do is change the design? It's disgusting!
