10 Most Prestigious Wrestling Championship Belts Ever
9. The WWWA World Singles Championship (AJW)
Date established: August 1970; Date Retired: 26 March, 2006 # Of Reigns: 60 Wrestler with Most Reigns: Jumbo Miyamoto (5) Longest Reign: Bull Nakano (1,057) Shortest Reign: Lioness Asuka & Nanae Takahashi (>1 Day each) The WWWA World Singles Championship makes this list due to the sheer volume of outstanding womens wrestling matches for the belt throughout its tenure, but especially during the early-to-mid 1990s. The World Womens Wrestling Association World Singles Title traces its roots back to the belt that Mildred Burke won back in 1937, which itself traces back to a belt from the 1890s. Though it was initially defended everywhere, All Japan Womens Pro Wrestling (AJW) bought the title in 1968, which helped launch AJWs popularity into the 1970s and 1980s. AJW was host to some of the finest womens wrestling on the planet over the course of more than three decades. The names of former title holders include Bull Nakano, Aja Kong, Akira Hokuto, and Kyoko Inoue and the legendary Manami Toyota. For those who follow joshi wrestling, these are akin to the big names that held the AWA and NWA World Championships in the United States. So while the belt is no longer active, the legendary matches that featured these women are among the best reasons for this titles inclusion on this list.
