10 Most Repeated WWE Storylines
4. The Invasion
It's an idea that always sounds good on paper. When a hot new faction arrives in WWE like Bray Wyatt's house on fire, riding roughshod over the entire locker room, we're bound to get our hopes up.
Yet through sloppy booking or a string of sobering defeats, these once-proud stables lose their dominant edge and gradually fade into oblivion. The Alliance, nWo, and The Nexus all arrived with plenty of intrigue and promise but suffered similar fates.
The major problem with an invasion angle is WWE never seems prepared to go all the way with it. After all, an invasion only poses a real threat is there's a genuine prospect of WWE being taken over and given Vince McMahon's love of humiliating his competition, there was no chance in hell of that happening, at least where The Alliance and nWo was concerned.
Further diluting any invasion angle is WWE's tendency to drag this kind of storyline out as long as possible, even when the end result is already clear.
Nobody could take The Nexus seriously after watching John Cena emasculate its entire membership ad nauseam. Stop adjusting their attitudes, John. They're already dead.
Rather than build to a dramatic payoff, WWE often prefers to let this oft-repeated storyline fizzle out like a bad romance. New Nexus and The Corre? How can we put this? Maybe it's time we see other stables.
