When Mr. Burns goes bankrupt and forecloses on his home, the mansion is sold to none other than Bret Hart. Bret Hart appearing in an episode of The Simpsons is pretty damn cool. So why is this spot on a list of ridiculous moments? Well, it's not Bret's fault, but let's be honest: while the character looks like 'the Hitman', it doesn't sound like 'the Hitman'. Nor does the character possess any 'Hitman' personality traits or characteristics. What's more, considering that Bret was a beloved babyface at the time, "Simpsons Bret" is kind of a jerk who bullies an elderly old man. So what went wrong? As Bret told The AV Club in 2009, "They approached me about doing a voice as a wrestler, but not Bret Hart. It was the Mad Russian or something. I said, "I don't want to be the Mad Russian, I want to be Bret 'The Hitman' Hart!" We went back and forth for a while and they eventually said, very politely, "This is the way it's written, take it or leave it." I agreed, and flew down to FOX Studios, and I signed autographs and took pictures for 45-minutes. The guy that was in charge of my episode came up to me and said, "I had no idea you were this big of a star! If we haven't already started the artwork, we're going to draw you in as yourself." That's why the voice doesn't really sound like me, because I thought I was playing a crazy Russian!" And so, Bret Hart appeared in an episode of The Simpsons, albeit as a mean spirited Russian who bought a mansion with "old man stink" simply so that he could live next door to 'The Shrieking Sheik'. Now that's ridiculous! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=K4ualbwArNs Sound off on your favorite Hitman memories - good and bad - and let's reminisce below!
