Towards the end of its run, WCW had become obsessed with courting celebrities such as KISS and Jay Leno, in feeble attempts to attract national press and mainstream attention. And poor Bret was sucked right in. During Bret's second guest appearance on MADtv, he participated in an Andy Kaufman/Jerry Lawler style "worked shoot" angle with Will Sasso. Bret claimed to be angry at members of the cast for making fun of wrestling. He then attacked several crew members before slapping Sasso in a sharpshooter, and it probably would've worked better had the live studio audience not laughed while the whole thing was going down. Sasso and Hart would then attack one another on both MADtv and WCW programing, with Sasso even interfering in a match and costing Bret Hart his US Championship against 'Rowdy' Roddy Piper. The whole angle was awkward, served no clear purpose, had no real resolution, and did nothing to get either guy over. In other words, it was vintage WCW. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=U1xUeJnsQZY
